A Snake in the Grass

I have been remiss in my yard cutting duties at the homestead for nearly two weeks and the grass was starting to get a little rough. The lot next door makes my lawn look immaculate by comparison, however, and the guy on the other side is not exactly finicky about the look of his lawn, either.

I started mowing the lawn this weekend when the riding mower made a rather disheartening popping sound and died on me, with a little smoke issuing from the engine. It was a brand new, 5 year old used mower that my wife got for me for my birthday at the beginning of the summer, too. I think the engine has had it, because when I tried to start it after, it just whined; the engine didn’t as much as cough. So, I pushed it back to the garage and got out the push mower to finish up the job.

While making the first cut around the outside, I saw something moving out of the corner of my eye beside the house. There was a snake slithering along the side of the house! Now, I hate snakes. I am a long confirmed snake-o-phobe. The very sight of them makes me want to crawl inside myself and hide, even though my father would bring them home occasionally when I was a kid and show us how to safely handle them. This one probably came out of the lot next door and couldn’t discern the boundary line between the tall grass in my yard and the taller grass of the lot.

It appears many people are having trouble these days discerning the boundary line between socialism and the Conservative option of a free market economy. We have many snakes within our system of government who are trying to take us ever closer into the weeds of socialism. They hide using different names and different disguises, they take different winding, slithering paths, but the end result is the same.

We have a presidential candidate who is proposing additional government “oversight” for the markets and businesses to ensure that bailouts are not necessary and to promote “transparency” within the markets. He proposes more paperwork and red tape for business; expenses that will be passed on to the consumer. This candidate also proposes more “protections” for those that sign loans that they know they shouldn’t be taking on. He proposes, not to end all bailouts, but rather a program so that the bailouts will be “consistent”. The presidential candidate in question also proposes more government spending in order to manipulate the marketplace to promote alternative energy. He will accomplish all of this while reaching across the aisle to the “other” party. This candidate is none other than John McCain.

As for the snake I saw this weekend in my yard:
I killed it. Ran it over with the lawnmower. And if I had not had to get down off of my comfortable riding mower and instead walk behind the push mower, I may not ever have seen this snake in the first place. I’ve got kids that like to run all through the yard, often barefooted or in flip-flops, and they certainly don’t slow down to see where they’re stepping. They are too young to tell the difference between poisonous and non-poisonous. I don’t want anything to harm my kids. Don’t talk to me about snakes being good and killing the rodents that may be wondering around, either. As a Conservative I can do my own rat killing without appointing a snake proxy to do it for me. And if a bigger snake comes in the yard next time, I will be on the lookout and ready for it.

As for McCain: take a step off the comfort of partisan politics, our party vs. their party, get your hands dirty and stand up for Conservatism. It means sweating a little, but in the end you can help to stop our kids from getting bitten by any of the liberal snakes.

I’m a Redheaded Stepchild

I’ve tried to stay away from the Presidential election to this point. Other than being a member of the “Saint Crispin's Day Society” over at the Orphanage, and posting a few stabs here and there about the Republican everyone loves to hate (which can more easily be attributed to my red haired orneriness and willingness to pick a fight (I’m a victim of my nature!)), I have stayed somewhat out of the fray, and have been available for arguments from the other side. Until now. I have not changed my position on McCain. You can now officially count me out of the Maverick camp.

This has not been an easy decision for me.  As a few of you may know, I work as a civilian contractor on a military base.  If McCain loses, then this will most likely mean an Obama win.  As such, military spending is likely to be one of the first cuts of an Obamanation administration. This may mean a job loss for me. I’ve done my part to cultivate skills that should make me employable in other industries, however. The good news is that I won’t have to worry about health care for my kids!

We all know various reasons to oppose McCain:
McCain – Feingold
McCain – Lieberman
McCain – Kennedy
McCain - Lautenberg
Cap and Trade
Amnesty for Illegals
Gang of 14
Democrats appointed to Cabinet posts
And many, many others if you needed more.

Then just this week we have information on the Pinko Nancy’s energy bill, her investment conflicts, as well as the “bail-out” and government take-over of yet another segment of our economy. Where is McCain on any of this? Where is his Maverick style outrage over the ethical lapses represented by these events? As the de-factor leader of the party now with the biggest pulpit, this is a big chance for McCain to really stand up and be heard on this issue. He has a real opportunity to lead the party on drilling, as well as to embrace what it really means to be a "maverick" and speak out on the corruption within the Pelosi wing that Gray Ghost highlighted.

Silence…

Bottom line is that McCain is a liberal. Most of us know that. We’ve cussed him in the past for that. Yet many have hope that he’ll somehow change his stripes and “reach across” to Conservatives for a change, instead of giving Conservatives the ol’ “reach around”. With McCain the liberals will get all of their pet legislation, along with a scapegoat when things go wrong.

If you don’t know my stance on liberalism and socialism, you can take a look here. I’ve said before that liberalism is a far greater threat to this nation than the Islamofascists and been met with stares. There are several reasons.

We can fight the Islamofascits. (No, it’s not a typo.) We know who they are. We know what they want. They have told us, and they continue to warn us of their intentions. And when they attack we know it and We, as a Nation, get very upset and fight back.

The liberals hide themselves. They hide behind our children. They hide behind our parents. They hide behind the sick, the poor, and the defenseless. They undermine our society slowly. They weaken our military, our economy, our national pride, our morality. They don’t quit and they are always gaining ground.

I’d rather have an enemy in front of me that I can see and fight fairly than one that could be anywhere, one that may even be waiting for me when I get home.  As a former Navy Bubblehead I can appreciate and understand the tactics.  I also know that I don't want to fight against them.  We need to force them into the open.

Once we defeat liberalism, then the Islamofascits are easy. They cannot scare a nation that is determined to take care of itself. They cannot defeat people who stand up for themselves.

If we lose to liberalism than we’ve also lost to the Islamofascits. They will be able to walk right in the front door and take our houses, our schools, our churches.

Finally, to quote someone far older than I:
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious.  But it cannot survive treason from within.  An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly.  But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself.  For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men.  He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist.  A murder is less to fear."
-       Cicero

Under Obama, the Islamofascits may get nukes.
Under McCain, the liberals get a Nation.

I'll be voting for Barr this year, and I'll be doing it with a clear conscience.  Can the rest of you say the same?

I’m now officially a Redheaded Step-child within my own party.
Let the beatings begin.

Note:
This original post was written rather quickly, so I’ve updated it somewhat to better reflect my normal style. I didn’t want to give the impression that I may have been body snatched by the “Brianistas” (and wouldn’t the ladies have been jealous of the Brianistas then!) and forced to publish this against my will.

This also officially splits the Crimson Apex TownHallers, with Boaz being, as far as I know, the only remaining member not to yet take a stand (Frigglesnitz has been a no-show at the meetings lately).

Liberal Logic

Well, the series on Liberal Logic is complete, at least for now. It has been a huge success, receiving at least two visitors per post. As originally posted, the liberal mindset is full of flawed thinking and contradictory views. For a group that claims to value scientific thinking over religion, they really rely on faith to support their positions. But of course, it’s not really about any of these issues. It’s about Control.

The original series was to be seven posts, but grew into ten. Again, this confirms my Engineer’s OCD. So, if you missed any of them, they are linked below, along with the Redhead or Redneck counterpart to the post, or you can click here to see the whole series in reverse order. I do use a lot of links in my articles, and these are meant to provide reference material or just amuse, so feel free to click through. I would recommend sending your liberal friends over to see why their thinking is flawed, but getting a liberal to understand logic is like getting a giraffe to pilot a wind-powered airplane.

1:       Evolution vs. Climate Change:

Liberals love to present themselves as embracing evolution and being enlightened vs. us “Religious Zealots” who hold to the flat earth.  Yet they try to keep the earth’s climate stagnant and prevent the whole system from changing and the organisms on it from evolving.

Redneck Recycling:

Whenever I speak out against the liberal view of global warming, it seems that I get accused of being some illiterate redneck. Well, for your information, sir, rednecks have been protecting the environment and recycling stuff before it was hip, and still you look down on us. So I felt the need to provide you with a few examples.

2:       Big Government vs. Big Business:

Liberals seem to embrace larger and larger government, yet rail on and on against big business.  The very thought that government is always benevolent is in itself a symptom of defective thinking, but I plan to look at it from a logical standpoint and the differences between the two.

There are three main differences between Big Business and Big Government:

1.    Businesses cannot place you in jail for refusing to buy their goods or services, or in any other way force you to give them YOUR money.

2.    Businesses cannot charge you for services they perform only for your neighbor.

3.    If businesses try to accomplish 1 or 2, you can pursue them in court.

3:       Capitalism vs. Democracy:

Why is it that so many “Democrats” hate Capitalism, when Capitalism and Democracy are nearly one and the same?  Capitalism, in its purest form, is Democracy, every minute of every day, using money to cast votes.  A business (politician) that does not offer the consumer (voter) something that they want will not get their money (votes).  So why is it that liberals, who identify with the Democrat Party, are afraid of this?  Could it be that they are actually afraid of the voters?

Redneck Business:

Rednecks love private business.  Except for the 90’s, Rednecks were poorly represented by the government.  We also have a poor record when it comes to interacting with government agencies.

4:       Evolution vs. Animal Protection:

This is similar 1 above, but here I hope to explore the incessant need to push those dying whales back into the ocean rather than chop them up for food, or to save the Flat-spired three-toothed Snail, in view of evolution.

Animals evolve through natural selection to ensure species survival.  This often occurs due to changes in the environment.  This can involve human or natural intervention.  Yet when humans intervene to encourage evolution, the animal rights crowd goes nuts!

5:       Gun Control vs. Government Protection:

So many liberals want to get weapons out of the hands of the people and leave us to rely on government (police) protection, yet they complain about police cruelty and the inadequacies of FEMA.

Without guns, We the People, have the potential of becoming victims of government abuses and excesses.  This is the very reason behind the 2nd Amendment.  But if the people were disarmed, it would make it much easier for The Party to collect taxes from the evil rich?

Redneck Gun Control:

Tips for good gun control from people that know.

6:       Feminism vs. the Sexual Revolution:

Feminism used to be based on the fact that men and women are created equal.  Somehow this went hand in hand with the sexual revolution where women are taken advantage of solely for their bodies, and not for their minds.  Have you ever met a male “enlightened liberal” who wasn’t also a womanizer (or gay)?

7:       Diversity vs. …Everything:

Too many that espouse “diversity” often also espouse policies that actually reduce diversity.  I’m talking about diversity of thought, diversity of opinion, diversity of actions.  The liberal position seems to be that people are too stupid to do anything for themselves, or make their own decisions, so we are going to mandate these things that we think are good for you.  Seatbelts – no dissension allowed.  Smoking – no dissension allowed.  Guns – no dissension allowed. And these are their good points.

Seeing as there is a lot of money to be made in promoting diversity, the Crimson Apex Solidarity Horde is going into full swing.

8:       Money vs. Money:

We have learned from many on the left over the years that, “It’s not about the money.  You can be rich in so many other ways!”  Yet, at the same time, they make constant calls for more money for this, that, and the other, usually to be paid by “The Rich.”

“Money doesn’t buy happiness.”  This is what we’re told by feel good liberals when talking about the accomplishments of some business leader.  If that is the case, then why do they feel the need to expand the welfare rolls?  These people may already be rich in love.  Why do they always demean those who have made it big time for themselves, and for their kids?  Why is it that they want to take their hard earned money, if it’s not important?

Those of the Crimson Cranium cabal love money.  As such, the Crimson Apex Solidarity Horde is proud to announce their latest program: the Scarlet Collection of Assets Mechanism.

9:       Religion vs. The State:

We have heard for many years now about the “Separation of Church and State.”  We have also heard that “You cannot legislate morality!”  Yet many government programs, from Welfare to Social Security, from Nationalized Health Care to Carbon Credits rely on an appeal to our morality and our often are justified on religious grounds. It seems that liberals are fine using religion to get what they want, but reluctant to turn to it to receive what they need.

In some parts of the country you can be blasted as bitter for clinging to religion, but in redneck country it can mark you as someone who doesn’t hunt and isn’t too lazy to get up on Sunday.

10:     The Individual vs. The Collective:

Liberals love to place people in neat little groups, such as Christian Conservatives, Gays, Blacks, Women, and so forth.  This alignment of people provides them with neat little categories to lump people into while they can ignore the individuals that make up the groups.  The Individual is an anathema to those who worship the Collective.

Next up on the plate here at R&R: “Why I’m an Unapologetic Conservative”, another multi-part series.
